Cash Paid for Your Broken and unwanted Laptops
SPB buy, recycle, refurbish
and sell old and broken laptops, vastly extending the lifespan of consumer electronics, reducing landfill
waste and bringing affordable computing to the local area. Not to mention paying you for what would otherwise
be rubbish! help us help you and recycle!
Data Protection and recovery
If we buy your laptop to
recycle one of three things can happen to your hard disc drive. That’s the part of your laptop
that contains all your stuff.
Firstly we can remove it
and offer you it back to do as you
wish. We can even help you recover your data from it if requested. This is obviously the most secure
method in terms of privacy as you retain the data completely. This can however affect the cash you
receive.
Secondly we can physically
destroy the hard drive for you. This currently consists of employing a very large hammer
to shatter the hard drives' platters. It is non-reversible and very final.
The third method, if the hard
drive passes our read, write and seek tests is to secure wipe it. This overwrites the entire disk with one's
and zero's multiple times which prevents specialist recovery software from working. This allows us to recycle
more.
Battery Recycling
SPB are signed up
with Batteryback who collect our batteries and recycle them. You can have a look at their website to see
exactly what happens here http://www.batteryback.org/battery-recycling.html
F.A.Q.
I have been told my laptop is not fixable, what use is it to you?
In some cases this will
be the case or more accurately it means it is cost prohibitive to fix. We recycle
these laptops down for parts to use in others. This then enables us to offer more repairs and refurbish more
laptops. If you are unsure or want a second opinion ask for a free diagnosis alongside our assess for
purchase.
Why can't you assess my Laptop the same day? Must I leave it over night?
This is part of our due
diligence in making sure what we are buying is actually owned by the person trying to sell us it. We also
need time to assess the laptop in order to offer a fair market price (Or in some cases a repair
option.)
What’s the oldest laptop you take?
We currently assess
anything that has a Windows XP sticker or above. If you are unsure bring it in and we can have a quick look
at the counter.
My laptop is in bits, would you still look at it?
Definately. We are quietly proud of what we
can refurbish, upgrade and offer a warranty on.
What is my laptop worth?
We pay anywhere between £10 -
£100. We will advise you if we think you will get more selling it privately. This generally only applies
if the laptop is in working order. You can also use it as credit against a repair, service or trade
in.
